What is ISCC ?
TRANS CERTIFICATION INTERNATIONAL is a recognised partner of the International Sustainability Carbon Certification (ISCC) which enables us to offer clients certifications for the ISCC EU and ISCC Plus schemes in selected locations.
ISCC – International Sustainability and Carbon Certification – is a globally applicable sustainability certification system and covers all kinds of agricultural and forest biomass, biogenic waste and residues, non-biological renewable materials and recycled carbon-based materials.
To reduce the carbon footprint and limit environmental impact, countries are turning towards sustainable energy sources, such as biofuels. A global move towards renewable, low-carbon sources of energy is key to slowing climate change. To address this new market, the European Union (EU) has created mandatory parameters for all EU member countries for the sustainable production and processing of biomass in the Renewable Energy Directive (RED).
ISCC works towards a greener and livable planet, providing a sustainability certification system that covers the entire supply chain and all kinds of bio-based feedstocks and renewables.
The ISCC scheme establishes a traceability system that enables each participant to source sustainable products from any other certificate holder throughout the supply chain, covering:
- Farms, plantations or points of origin,
- First gathering points, country elevator or collecting points,
- Traders/storage,
- Processing units,
- And final products.
ISCC operates different certification systems for different markets. These systems are ISCC EU, ISCC PLUS and ISCC CORSIA.
ISCC EU is a certification system to demonstrate compliance with the legal requirements for the sustainability and greenhouse gas emissions savings criteria of the Renewable Energy Directive (EU) 2018/2001 (often referred to as RED II). ISCC EU has been fully recognised by the European Commission since 2011.
ISCC EU certification is applicable for biofuels EU-market and is recognised by the European Commission (EC) to demonstrate compliance with RED and FQD. All types of agricultural and forestry raw materials, waste and residues, biogas and algae can be certified under this scheme.
ISCC PLUS certification is applicable for the bioeconomy and circular economy for food, feed, chemicals, industrial applications (e.g. plastics or packaging) and energy from renewable sources used outside of the European Union (i.e. markets that are not regulated by the RED II). ISCC PLUS covers the same certification requirements as ISCC EU but can be customised to meet the needs of different markets or specific applications.
ISCC PLUS is a voluntary certification for non-regulated markets and is applicable for circular and bio‑based products, renewables, food, feed, and biofuels outside the EU. All types of agricultural and forestry raw materials, waste and residues, biogas and algae, renewable feedstocks of non‑biological origin (e.g. renewable energy from wind or water), bacteria and carbon capture and utilisation for transport purposes can be certified under this scheme.
